While rest and exercise are two major keys in keeping our hearts healthy, they are not enough if not combined with proper diet. Now there are numerous food groups out there that can probably be considered as heart food but what I have included in my list are the ones on the top five. Make sure you get enough of them if you don't want your heart to be broken literally.

If you're fond of eating fruits, good for you. But do you know what's better than eating just any kind of fruits? Eating apples mi amigo. You'll keep the doctor away for some time if you include more apples in your fruit salad. Drinking apple juice especially will lower your risk your heart diseases says experts.

Tomatoes too are heart-healthy, thanks to Lycopene. Aside from giving tomato its color, Lycopene also helps prevent heart disease. Researchers from Harvard Medical school has also found out that nutrients found in tomatoes interrupts and prevents the growth of cells that can cause breast cancer and other tumors.

Oats will probably never lose its place among the top heart-healthy foods. Its ability to lower cholesterol significantly has earned its popularity among health conscious individuals. And because it lowers cholesterol that means it can prevent you from acquiring serious health problems such as heart disease.

If you love wine, you should be happy. That's red wine to be exact. Red wine is rich in flavonoid and resveratrol. These two work hand in hand in increasing the production of HDL or good cholesterol and preventing blood clots in your arteries. Too much alcohol consumption though has been found to increase the risk for cancer so it would be good if you only drink red wine once in a while.

Salmon, tuna, sardines. These are the kind of seafood you would want to see on your table if you want to have a seafood diet. They are rich in omega-3, an unsaturated fatty acid that contributes in the health of the brain. Omega-3 can also prevent infection, cancer and cardiovascular disorders.

The heart is the wellspring of your being according to one saying. Friend, try to keep it healthy at all cost through regular exercise and proper diet if you want to see good days. You might regret it in the end if you don't.
