Is It Normal For A Child To Have An Anxiety Disorder?

Different anxiety disorder now plagues America. Some may be in the form of GAD or generalized anxiety disorder, some may be the dreaded panic disorder, and other may be the obsessive compulsive disorder. There are other anxiety disorders with different names. Survey and statistics tells us the around 25% of adults in America suffer from anxiety disorders. The statistic with children is yet unknown.

Although we could not yet number how many children are affected by anxiety disorder but it is certain that this problem can also be found in them. Studies have shown that a large number of adult patients who are suffering from anxiety disorder have manifested anxiety disorder when they were young.

Being a parent, it is important to know that basic fact that it is never normal for kids to have anxiety disorder. Other would say the opposite but you must not believe them. If anxiety disorder attacks adults, they can also attack the tender years. If this anxiety disorder children face remains untreated, complication will surely occur in the future.

A true to life situation is that of a young girl that has been showing signs of anxiety disorder when she was young but was neglected by her parents. As she grew, she developed an anxiety disorder called obsessive compulsive disorder and what she does is she rips off her hair one strand at a time. Every time she feels stress, like having exams at school of going on special occasions, she cannot help but pull off her hair until there will be a bald spot on her head. She now wears a wig and is under treatment.

It is real horror not to treat anxiety disorder in children. If you suspect that your child has anxiety disorder, then bring him immediately to professional care. To give you a basic knowledge of the symptoms that may occur to children, here are few manifestations: worry, apprehension, fear, and distress.

The symptoms are the tricky part. Most often, they are an everyday occurrences especially for children. We know that kids often worry. They worry about their pet being left at the vet, or their parent going away for a business trip. They also fear. Fear of the dark or fear of being left alone. However, you can know if it is not normal anymore if they occur too often.

This anxiety disorder children face will be a big concern for the whole family if it is not treated. First off, the concentration and learning of the child will be affected. We know how important these two are for children and we cannot afford to let it go loose. Their decision making and thinking will also be affected. Of course, there are many more that will be affected if anxiety disorders are not addressed.

Do not despair if you think that your child have anxiety disorder. Go seek a professional help immediately. It will give you comfort to know that anxiety disorders are treatable and you child can get away from its grip even before they grow as adults.
