Are There Alternative Methods To Get Rid Of Symptoms Of Heartburn?

A digestive system disorder, rather than a heart condition, is what we commonly refer to as heartburn. Heartburn symptoms can be a result of a variety of things; a dysfunctional digestive system, overeating, hormonal fluctuations, stress, eating certain foods and even certain medicines.

Medications like alginates, antacids, and antagonists, are used to treat heartburn, in conjunction with changes in the foods that you eat and some of your daily activities and behaviors. There are a number of natural treatments that can be utilized to productively remedy heartburn, one of which is baking soda.

Baking soda works as an antacid by neutralizing the stomach acids causing the discomfort, thus providing relief. When using baking soda it is important to use as directed. The effects of the baking soda can alter the pH of the stomach past a normal acidic range resulting in additional pain.

For the proper combination that offers the most effective cure, combine half a glass of water with half a teaspoon of baking soda. Be sure that the baking soda has dissolved thoroughly before drinking. This recipe should be used a maximum of seven times daily.

Baking soda has a high content of sodium which helps the body to retain water. For this reason individuals with elevated blood pressure of pregnant women should exercise caution when using this natural alternative. Consultation with your physician is always recommended before using this or any treatment, especially those already taking medications.

Prevention of heartburn is preferable to getting it first and treating it afterwards. Many foods are known to trigger heartburn and should be avoided if possible. These include chocolate, foods with strong flavors, foods containing vinegar, fats or oils. Heartburn is also more readily avoided if small portions are eaten more often rather than overeating in a single sitting. Heartburn can also be prevented by reducing stress, improving body posture and exercising regularly with yoga or meditation.
