Good Tips For Heartburn Remedies

By Tom Beschenbossel

Heartburn or acid reflux are terrible things to have to suffer through. They can be very painful and difficult to get rid of. A single bout of heartburn can ruin your whole day. You must therefore try some heartburn remedies to stop it from happening in the first place and to cure yourself if you do get it. You should know your body well and what it can handle.

The first and most obvious place to start is by taking antacids. They recommend that you do not take more than eight in a twenty-four hour period. Talk to your doctor about the correct dosage for you. If you are constantly bordering on the eight tablets every day, you may need a stronger medication.

Normally just one or two can cure a person in a few minutes. Give it a half hour just to be sure. If you still hurt after a half hour, take two more. Give it another half hour before determining. Remember that by taking more, it will not speed your recovery along any faster. Bigger doses are for bigger problems, not for the sake of speed.

If medications still make you nervous, there are other ways to get your stomach acid down. One way is by giving your acid something to do. Its purpose is to digest your food, so eat something. Make sure it is a base product with no acids and few sugars. Any soda or citrus fruit will make you feel a lot worse. Bread and milk are excellent standard helpers.

Avoid this whole mess by taking preventative measures. Whenever you get heartburn, look for patterns. What are you doing and what have you been eating? How much have you eaten that day? By doing this, you can hopefully link patterns to some foods or activities. Avoid them entirely if you can.

Unfortunately, there may not always be patterns. Sometimes it just strikes at random when you have eaten foods that normally do not give you any problems. Try to keep your mind on 'why' anyway. Count your acidic foods each day like some people count calories.

Behavior may have to change if your body experiences this all the time. Not only will your diet be up for evaluation, but you may have to start sleeping while sitting up. It is a great way to let gravity help keep your acids down. Sometimes too much movement or exercise can also upset your stomach. You may want to try not moving quite so much.
