Bacterial Vaginal Infection

Bacterial Vaginosis

Since many years, lots of women are suffering from the disease defined as vaginal infection. Vaginal infection, which in short known as vaginitis, happens when you feel irritation in the vaginal area. The consequence of such irritation leads to itching, odor as well as vaginal discharge. It is very important that each and every woman should be knowledgeable of this and hence they can take required precautions to avoid the disease.

Signs and symptoms:

There are various important signs of vaginal infection. These indications are listed below:

Generally all women get certain vaginal discharge that keeps the vagina clean. Usual discharge is mostly clear, either white or yellow, with mild odor. But when you are suffering from vaginal infection, there might be redness in the color of the discharge and will smell bad.

One may find some sort of itching around the vaginal areas. You could get burning sensation while urination. You may suffer from fever. One may feel abdominal ache.

Varieties of vaginal infection:

There are commonly three different types of vaginal infection such as bacterial vaginosis, candida vaginitis and trichomonas vaginitis. Bacterial vaginosis is the most common form of vaginal infection in which women have a large number of organisms called as Gardnerella Vaginalis. In this infection, the vaginal discharge is generally thin, white or discolored. In candida vaginitis, the discharge will be thick and white. You could get itching, swelling or redness near the vaginal area while getting candida vaginitis. Trichomonas vaginitis, which is also known as "Trick", is the most frequent vaginal infection. During this infection, you will get big quantity of discharge that can be colorless. If you encounter any of the signs or symptoms of such infections, you should check with the doctor. The physician will check to find out the type of infection you have.

Medication :

The treatment of vaginal infections is dependent on the kind of infection you are having. For example, if you have developed bacterial vaginosis, then it can be cured with a prescription medication defined as metronidazole (Flagyl, protostat). Candida vaginitis, which is a basically yeast infection, is generally treated by applying creams and suppositories. Trichomonas vaginitis can be cured by metronidazole.

Prevention :

Many vaginal infections such as trichomoniasis, candida vaginitis are transmitted through skin to skin contact. There are a few ways you can decrease the risk of having vaginal infections such as : Try to wear cotton pants and change them regularly. Do not use perfume soaps or feminine hygiene sprays. Try to use condom while having sexual intercourse.

Vaginal infection is very much treatable and responds in a good way to therapy if recognized as well as treated appropriately. Always follow up with your doctor even when you are not experiencing signs of vaginal infection.
