All You Need To Know Regarding Marijuana Detox

By John Roderick

Marijuana is addictive and the health risks of frequent usage of it are vast. The benefits of quitting make any attempt at it a very good choice. Marijuana withdrawal is real and very difficult to withstand. Marijuana detox does not have obvious physical symptoms, but it is as hard to quit as any other drug.

Opinions about marijuana were formed many years ago when the strength of the drug was not at the same level as it is today. Because of this, a mistaken belief exists regarding the withdrawal agony that is associated with this narcotic. The symptoms of withdrawal might be so severe and the cravings so intense that detoxification might present a huge hindrance to quitting.

Within one day of ceasing use of the drug, the force of the symptoms will reach its peak. It will start a gradual subsidence within three or four days. The symptoms that might be encountered include restlessness, loss of appetite, nausea and extreme cravings. Severe headaches and insomnia may also be present. You may go through periods of irritability and depression. Aggressive behavior might also show as a symptom.

The extent and history of abuse as well as personal physiology will determine the symptoms that will be encountered. The most common withdrawal symptoms are anxiety, insomnia and irritability. The chances of going back to using are extremely high during those first few days because the symptoms are so intense and the cravings could become unbearable.

No medications are available to assist you during this period. The only thing that will help is time. The severity of the symptoms can be lessened by regular and intense exercise. Intense exercise stimulates the release of endorphins that will make you feel good and this will in turn lessen the feelings of depression or anxiety that you may be feeling. Constant activity will also tire your body and this will help you regulate your sleeping pattern.

If you have a good support network during those early days, it will assist with overcoming temptation. The intense cravings that you will feel can be reduced by keeping busy and steering clear of those areas where there is temptation.

Different people will undergo different marijuana detox symptoms and it should thus be treated on an individual basis. The dangers may not be as great as with alcohol withdrawal or heroin withdrawal, but it is every bit as difficult to overcome. The cravings and the anxiety will make it very problematic to quit. If you find that it is extremely difficult to get beyond the cravings, then it might be a good idea to consider opting for professional help.
