So How Does Heart Disease Affect Girls

By Susan Bishop

Aside from breast cancer, heart disease has been the leading cause of death among women in the past few years. The reason can be linked to ignorance and the wrong attitude towards the condition says most experts. Since women are more likely to be busier than men, they find little time even just to notice the symptoms. This article can be of good use to you if you want to know more about heart disease among women.

High blood pressure is a sign that your heart is working overtime and exerting too much effort to pump blood through your artery walls. This may lead to a heart attack if left ignored. The common reason for this is too much salt in your diet and too little physical activity. Your first step in preventing this is by eating less LDL-rich foods and of course exercising. Visit your doctor regularly to have your blood pressure checked too.

If you're starting to notice that you cannot fit in any of your jeans anymore, it is a sign that your arteries are blocked by fat and cholesterol. This is according to recent studies that have concluded that a fat belly can be linked to problems in the arteries. Save your arteries by eating more fiber-rich foods. Taking in more antioxidants from fruits and vegetables will also help you do the trick.

Heartache can literally result to a broken heart. Studies have shown that women who have trouble in their relationships have higher risk for a heart attack than those who keep a healthy relationship with their partners. It is also written in the Bible that a broken heart can melt away the bones. The solution here is to take good care of your relationship.

Since the symptoms of heart attack on women are different from those of men, you have to continually be on your guard. Watch out for signs such as upper body discomfort, fatigue and weakness, shortness of breath, nausea and even indigestion. Doing so will put you one step ahead of the attack.

Remember that a healthy heart is always a result of a well-balanced diet and regular physical activity. Exercise in most days of the week to keep not only your heart but your entire body fit and sound. A visit to the clinic every three months will also help you keep your heart in perfect shape.
