So You Want Muscles

By Brent McNutt

So, you want to build muscles? Well, whatever you do, don't try to do it the bodybuilder way. That's not for the ordinary, everyday guy who just wants to build up his body. The professionals have a completely different way of doing these things, and if you don't know what you are doing, you could injure yourself. Begin slowly, and build your strength up as you go. Don't expect to see results overnight. Be realistic about the workouts.

The way you eat, and what you eat are a big part of building your muscles. You are going to have to begin by eating many more times a day than you are used to. Your body is going to need a constant fuel supply as you work out. Forgetting about this part will leave you weak and possibly sick. Look at it this way: if you drive your car without fueling up, you aren't going to get very far. Same goes for your body. Food means fuel, and your body will need constant fuel if you expect it to perform at it's best. Don't neglect this important step in the program.

You must be consistent in the way you work out. You have to put stress on those muscles in order for them to grow. If you don't feel the burn when you finish, you are not accomplishing what you set out to do. To be effective, your muscles have to hurt when your work out is over. Each time you put stress on the muscles, you are enabling them to get a bit stronger each time you work them. It has to hurt to be effective. Don't let the pain stop you from continuing. Work through it and keep your goal in mind.

Read up on special diets for someone who is looking to bulk themselves up. Follow the advice of someone who has already done it. Don't try to be a body builder. The way they train is not something meant for an average person. You will need to get your body in the best shape it can be in before you move on to a higher goal. These things take time and years of specialized training. Body builders train every day to keep themselves in the shape they are in.

Be in touch with your body, and learn to read the signals it is giving you. If it says 'stop', then stop. Pushing yourself beyond the limits of what you can do will only cause problems. Take your time to accomplish the goals you have set for yourself. Patience is the key to get what you want out of your workout. Begin slowly and build your strength over time. Don't expect too much at first. Be realistic as you set out to build your muscles to a point where you are satisfied. Everything good takes time, and you have to be willing to give your body time to adjust to what you are asking it to do.

A great body and large muscles are not achieved in just a matter of days. You may begin to see results in a few weeks, but it will take months of hard, consistent training to reach the goal you have set for yourself. Don't give up partway through just because you don't think you are getting anywhere. Have patience, and continue your program. The first sign that you are getting somewhere will be when someone asks you if you have been working out because they notice something different about you!
