By Christian Goodman

While many people are inherently at risk. High blood pressure can happen to any people.

High blood pressure (also known as hypertension) knows no racial barriers. Neither is age a barrier as there have been cases of high blood pressure in the very young as well as the very old.

There is no perfect profile for a person who definately does or does not have high blood pressure. Think of cases in which someone who was extremely fit actually died of a stroke or heart attack - as a result of hypertension. On the other hand, there are people who would seemingly be excellent candidates - perhaps very overweight and out of shape who posess normal blood pressure numbers.

It is a very non-discriminating disease and everyone should apply caution by keeping a frequent check on their blood pressure.

The counts on blood pressure can vary depending upon the situation it was taken. If you are detected with blood pressure there are many things to keep in mind before panicking. Blood pressure cannot be determined on single reading.

While have pain like toothache or headache is not the appropriate time to take the counts of blood pressure. As pain can increase you pressure. The same can be said on stress too. When you have long stressed day at work your your blood pressure might be high.

A reading should be taken after being calm for several minutes. In addition, don't chug down a caffinated beverage prior to the reading.
