Using Lotion For Scabies Is A Powerfully Advantageous Treatment Method

By Becca G Taylor

Scabies is a highly contagious, itchy skin infection caused by a mite that burrows into the skin. There are several treatments for the condition, but lotion for scabies is a very successful and easy to use method. Consult a physician before beginning any treatment plan.

Scabies does not discriminate. It infects people of all races, ages and economic status. It is spread by close, prolonged contact with an infected person or anything that an infected person is in close contact with. Usually, a quick high five, handshake or hug should not provide sufficient time for scabies to spread.

Intensely itchy skin and maybe a rash are common symptoms of scabies. The symptoms are thought to develop as a reaction to the burrowing mites, and the eggs and fecal matter left behind.

The diagnosis of scabies is simple and painless. A doctor can conclude that you have scabies based on your symptoms, or by simply taking a scraping of skin from an infected area and looking at it under magnification, as well as many other painless methods. Once diagnosis is confirmed, the physician will discuss possible treatment plans.

Effective scabies treatment will eliminate both the mites and the eggs. Lotions applied to the skin are regularly prescribed as a cure, but various other methods also exist such as oral medications. Follow the instructions included with any treatment, as well as those given by the physician.

Since scabies is highly contagious, in addition to treating the infected person, a treatment plan for people that the infected person is close or in intimate contact with may need to be worked out. Generally, anyone with very close contact to the infected person should receive treatment. Treatments of all possibly infected persons should take place at the same time to prevent further infections.

To prevent becoming infected again, everything that has been in close contact with the infected person should be well cleaned. Clothing, bed clothes, towels and such should be washed in hot water. There are also some sprays available to help cleaning surfaces that cannot be laundered.

Once treatment begins, the symptoms of the infection may continue for awhile, but will gradually go away as the treatment is administered. There is also an assortment of methods that can be used to temporarily relieve the symptoms such as bathing in a cool tub or using a calamine type lotion. A doctor can also prescribe other relief methods for the symptoms.

Talk to a doctor if a scabies infection is suspected. Then follow the treatment plans for the use of lotion for scabies treatment diligently, and the infection should disappear fairly easily.
