Hemorrhoids Treatment - Some Advice

By Erica Hall

Hemorrhoids are swollen and inflamed veins in the rectum, and they are extremely painful. The pain is accompanied by a severe burning sensation and continual itchiness. In serious cases, it may be necessary to have them surgically removed. However, most times they can be cured without surgery if you know how to treat hemorrhoids naturally.

Hemorrhoids can be caused by obesity, pregnancy, or a severe persistent cough. A leading cause is also constipation. If you sit on the toilet for a long time straining for a bowel movement, hemorrhoids can result. Sometimes the hemorrhoids bleed causing even worse pain.

If you sit on the toilet for long periods, this can not only cause hemorrhoids, but it can also make them worse. If you or any member of your family likes to read while on the toilet, this bad habit should be stopped immediately. Your bowels will let you know when it's time to get to the toilet.

You can keep constipation at bay by eating a fiber-rich diet. Replace white bread with whole grain bread; eat lots of whole grain cereals, fresh fruit and leafy veggies. Step up your intake of fluids. Above all, drink more water. The likelihood of hemorrhoids will be markedly reduced if you are not constipated.

You can further reduce constipation by taking a daily supplement that contains the herb, flaxseed. This will keep your bowel movements nice and loose. Many centuries ago our forefathers used flaxseed to avoid constipation. Flaxseed has numerous other beneficial effects on overall health.

Your anus must be kept dry and clean at all times. Don't scrub it abrasively while cleaning. You will just irritate the hemorrhoids more and increase pain and inflammation. Wipe gently and slowly. After every bowel movement, wash your anus with water and then dab it dry with a baby wipe or soft tissue.

People who are overweight are at risk of hemorrhoids. This is due to the fact that there is a lot of pressure on the lower regions of the body, particularly on the rectum. To cure and prevent hemorrhoids, a weight loss program is strongly suggested.

Hemorrhoids can be further aggravated by the lifting of heavy objects. Sitting for long periods also puts the rectum under further pressure. So if you have a sedentary type of job, get up regularly, walk around and chat to your colleagues.

If you have hemorrhoids, soak in a bath of warm water, at least six times a day, for about 10 minutes. Warm water has a soothing effect and it can reduce swelling and relieve pain. Do not use any bath oils, foams or other commercial bathing products. The bath should be filled with water only.

There are also a number of very good home remedies that you should try. Add a little ground mustard to some yoghurt, mix well and eat. The mustard seeds must be chewed carefully. After you have eaten this, drink a glass of buttermilk.

Peel one pomegranate, then place the peels into a pot of water and boil it up. Keep the mixture in your fridge and have a glass each morning and evening. This can speed up the cure of hemorrhoids and ease pain. Here's another mixture that works well. Pour a glass of buttermilk and add peppercorns, rock salt and ginger. Drink twice a day.
