All About Candida Albicans Fungus Overgrowth

By Doc Walton

Candida is a type of yeast or fungi that is present in small quantities and found in every body. It can mainly be found in the mouth, throat and digestive tract. It is also present in women in the vagina. Candida yeast is a completely natural and normal organism in humans. Under normal conditions, the immune system keeps the yeast under control, and it does not cause a problem. However, stress, sugary foods, and antibiotics can lead to a Candida albicans fungus overgrowth.

It is not uncommon for each person to experience a yeast infection during their lifetime. Candida yeast infection is a common female complaint, although men may experience it too. It's estimated that over 75% of women have had at least one Candida vaginal infection in their life.

A yeast overgrowth can be difficult to treat as it changes forms and begins to spread rapidly throughout the body. If it is not treated, it can lead to life threatening problems such as Leaky Gut Syndrome. At this point the yeast can enter the blood stream and invade every organ in the body causing systemic Candida. At the same time it can give off over seventy different toxins. The majority of the people with chronic Candida have a difficult time completely healing from a condition.

There are numerous Candida symptoms that may vary among different people. Some of the more common are abdominal gas, bloating, fatigue, strong craving for sweets, mood swings, depression, dizziness, poor memory, muscle weakness, athlete's foot and learning difficulties. Scientists believe that Candida infections play a large part in most major illnesses and in many mental health issues.

Interestingly, a Candida albicans fungus overgrowth is more likely to affect the brain organ, than any other organ of the body. This is what makes it a suspect in many mental illnesses. Patients often complain of the inability to think clearly.

Treating Candida overgrowth is not an easy thing to do. It can often be done with diet and supplements, but it has to be done slowly. As the Candida die off, the immune system kicks in to eliminate the toxins and impurities, causing what is known as the Herxheimer Reaction. This simply means that the person may feel extremely ill for several days during this purification process. Starting Candida treatments as early as possible can help to prevent this reaction from happening.

The diet for treating Candida is made up of clean meats, plain yogurt, protein and non-starchy vegetables. Yogurt helps the natural bacteria in the intestines to flourish, making it possible for the immune system to control the Candida. Things that cannot be eaten until the yeast is under control are: sugar, foods made from yeast, fruits and carbohydrates. Sugar is the number one food of Candida yeast and must be avoided if you are on a treatment program.

Caprylic acid, garlic and acidophilus supplements are an important part of treatment. These supplements help the beneficial bacteria grow in the intestines, while destroying the Candida yeast. They have been proven to help the immune system stop a Candida albicans fungus overgrowth dead in it's tracks.

Candida that stays in the digestive tract at normal levels, can play a small but important part of our health because it can help destroy harmful, foreign bacteria within the digestive tract. It's a good idea to contact your doctor, and ask him to check for Candidiasis if you are experiencing unexplained medical or mental problems for any length of time.
