Our society today are so obsessed with so many things including how we feel, look and perform in public. It is the reason we have turned into a people who are "medicated freaks." In this article we will try to give some reasons and problems our society are faced with in regards to bipolar and the use of bipolar medication.
The First Problem " Pressures
We are faced with big problems at school where teachers and everybody are trying to advise parents and those with the illness to go on medication. The problem is teachers would like to have children who are well behaved in their classroom. We seem to be self taught authorities" overnight and if that is not frightening enough, more than half of parents were told by smart people to put their children on special medication. The main reason these children were given drugs is because of outside pressures from these non professional people.
Problem Two " Quick Fix
What happens most of the time, instead of helping to de-stress our lives, we take a pill when we are not feeling well and if its does not get better, we add another dose. We must give time for a headache to heal itself slowly. Another scenario, our little son coughs, we immediately rush for the their cough and cold medications. If they don't want to take it because of the flavor, we run out and get another flavor. It is important we give our body the chance to work out the problem; its probably some dust that is stuck in the throat. But no, we pump our children up with all sort of medicine we can get our hands on.
Third Problem " Wrong Diagnosis
We find that a lot of doctors are fast in prescribing strong medication to very young children with Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder ( ADHD). In a lot of cases it may cure the present illness, sometime other symptoms which were not present resurface, so other drugs is given. This can be compared to the person who swallowed a fly and to get the fly she had to take in the spider to catch the fly and the rat to get rid of the spider. Most doctors are too proud to admit that they they are lost in their diagnosis and so pump medication after medication, stimulants and ant stimulants, antidepressants and antipsychotics into the young child's body.
4th Problem " Availability of Drugs
The easy excess of medication is part of the reason our society is mad with immediate gratification. Most of us (especially the rich), have the money and want it fixed NOW. We become very impatient with our body's illness and so do not help the body use its own natural resources to fight whatever is causing the problem.
Fifth " Money Obsession
All of us including pharmaceuticals are so obsessed with money and so want to sell to get the money whatever the cost. Most doctors dealing with medicine do not really know the real power of bipolar medications. Nearly all those who make these drugs and those giving it are all driven by making more money. While this may insult some people, but I think all of us are fed up with this money thing.
Final words
After all that is being said and before you run off to the chemist for your medications or your children s, it would be a good idea to just sit down and try another approach. It is the non medication approach which a lot of parents have done and proven successful. You child is precious that must not be pumped up by any medication we can lay our hands on.
