Chronic Fatigue Syndrome -- A New Approach To Recovery

By Russell Stubbs

Advanced Practitioner Russell Stubbs gives an overview of the Lightning Process training programme.

Which health conditions can benefit from the Lightning Process?

I will refer to the condition of CFS - Chronic Fatigue Syndrome in the following article. However, the same principals apply equally to M.E. - Myalgic Encephomyalitis, F.M. - Fibromyalgia and P.V.F.S. - Post Viral fatigue Syndrome. The training is also relevant to other health conditions that benefit from a positive influence on the immune system.

What are the common triggers for Chronic Fatigue Syndrome?

There are many different ways in which people develop Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. For some sufferers the condition develops after contracting a bacterial infection or virus. For others the trigger can be due to a build up of stress or one specific stressful event. Some other triggers include operations, vaccinations, injuries, toxins, along with many more.

Chronic Fatigue Syndrome can continue for many years.

No matter how the condition started, a common pathway forms. Chronic Fatigue Syndrome can then persist, often for years and in some cases even decades. Sufferers typically search for help during this time from medical practitioners, both conventional and alternative. Often recovery attempts result in short-term or limited success and the sufferer continues their search for a cure.

What role does the stress response play?

All the latest research into CFS related conditions concludes a sustained stress response in sufferers. Some treatment approaches aim at alleviating the specific symptoms. Others attempt to teach sufferers strategies to manage their available energy. These approaches are missing a vital point. Until the activation of the stress response can be reduced and bought back into balance, long term recovery is unlikely.

The discovery part of the Lightning Process

The Lightning Process is a training programme that takes part over three days. During day one, participants take part in a discovery process. This is to uncover the unconscious patterns that have formed that are driving the stress response. These patterns include behaviors, thought processes, expectations and beliefs. These were not responsible for causing the condition, but do play a key role in maintaining it.

Are these patterns only found in Chronic Fatigue Syndrome?

These patterns are not unique to this condition, most are common human traits. The problem occurs when they become out of balance, which seems to be the common ground in Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. Participants are also shown the physiological consequences of a sustained stress response. The very mechanism that has helped our species to survive - Fight or Flight, can adversely affect most bodily systems when activated over the long term.

How can we change these patterns using Lightning Process?

After learning that the mind and body have a powerful link between them, participants are shown how to use this connection to influence their own health in a positive way. The destructive patterns can be changed moment-to-moment through the use of specific body movements and certain targeted questions. When the process is used in a consistent way the cycle of ME/CFS can be collapsed rapidly and permanently.

How does the Lightning Process utilize neural plasticity?

"Neural plasticity" is the term used to describe the brains ability to adapt and change according to experience. The Lightning Process is a tool that can be used to utilize this function of the brain. By using the process consistency and in the correct way it becomes possible to literally re-form the neural architecture of ones brain. We can learn to have a profound influence over our own health and well being by making conscious and then changing damaging responses from moment-to-moment.

Is the Lightning Process something everyone can use?

The Lightning Process is not necessarily suitable for everyone. It is a training programme and not a treatment or therapy. It is vital that the participant is ready to take part and make the necessary changes. The work involved can at times be challenging, and so, there is a need for commitment. For those people who are ready and committed to doing the work the outcome can be quite remarkable. Thousands of people every year turn their health and lives around as a result of taking part in the Lightning Process training.
